Beaches

End your journey on the Indian Ocean. Zanzibar brings white sand, Stone Town and spice farms. Mafia and Pemba are quieter islands known for diving and whale sharks. On the mainland, Pangani and Saadani offer long, empty beaches where the bush meets the sea.

Trekking

Climb Kilimanjaro, the highest mountain in Africa at 5,895 m, with no technical skills needed. Mount Meru is a quieter climb and good preparation. For gentler days, walk village to village in the Usambara Mountains, or climb the active volcano Ol Doinyo Lengai at sunrise.

Best Time to Visit Tanzania

Tanzania is a year-round destination. The main safari season runs from mid-May to October, when the country is dry and wildlife is easiest to see. November to February is warm and green, with newborn animals and fewer visitors. March to mid-May brings the long rains: safaris still run, the parks are quiet and prices are lower.

Questions travellers ask

How many days do I need for a Tanzania safari?

Two or three days cover one area: Tarangire and Ngorongoro from Arusha, or Mikumi or Nyerere from Dar es Salaam or Zanzibar. Five to seven days let you add the Serengeti in the north, or combine Ruaha and Nyerere in the south. Eight to ten days suit western Tanzania, with Katavi and the chimpanzees of Mahale, or a safari followed by a beach stay.

Do you offer budget, midrange and luxury safaris?

Yes. Our Classic, Signature and Bespoke journeys cover every budget, in northern, southern, western and eastern Tanzania and on the coast. Every safari is private, and you can mix accommodation levels within one trip.

When is the Great Migration in the Serengeti?

The migration moves all year. January to March is calving season in the southern Serengeti and Ndutu. April to June the herds move through the central and western Serengeti. July to October is river crossing season in the north. November and December they return south. Outside the Serengeti, June to October is the best time for Ruaha, Nyerere, Katavi and Tarangire.

Where do your safaris start?

Wherever suits your route. Northern safaris start in Arusha or at Kilimanjaro International Airport. Southern safaris start in Dar es Salaam, or by flight from Zanzibar. Western safaris to Katavi, Mahale and Gombe start by flight from Arusha or Dar es Salaam. Beach stays start in Zanzibar, Mafia or Dar es Salaam. We meet you at the airport.

Which part of Tanzania is best for a safari?

The north is best for a first safari, with the Serengeti, Ngorongoro Crater and Tarangire. The south, with Ruaha and Nyerere, is wilder and quieter, with boat and walking safaris. The west has Katavi and chimpanzee trekking in Mahale and Gombe. The east has Saadani, Mikumi and the coast. Many guests combine two regions by flight.
